Last half term, our learning in Year One was linked to the theme, ‘Our Local Area’.
We learned about and compared different types of houses and homes, streets and where we live, play and go to school. We learned about addresses and postcodes and used the iPads, in our computing sessions, to locate places, including our homes. In our writing sessions, we shared many different stories together. We really enjoyed reading, ‘Snail Mail’ and we used this story to help inspire our own writing.
In Science, we planted a variety of seeds and bulbs. We learnt about and discussed what plants need in order to grow and we began to record our observations of the seeds growing in our own plant diary. During our JIGSAW sessions, we spent time thinking about and discussing ways that we can keep ourselves healthy. In our DT sessions we really enjoyed planning and making our ‘wacky races’ moving vehicles!
We have enjoyed many special days this half term too. Together we celebrated World Book Day and our Wellbeing Day and we had fun preparing for Easter and decorating our eggs. We also helped our school by looking after the grounds.
This half term our topic is,
‘Hot and Cold Places’!
