Year 3 Class

Our learning this half term

This half term, we have based our reading on The Firework Makers Daughter by Phillip Pullman, we have been focusing on retrieval and inference skills.

Furthermore, we have been learning about Volcanoes and Earthquakes in our Geography topic. We have researched recent earthquakes and volcanoes using Google Earth. We have also spent this half- term using lots of bicarbonate soda and vinegar to erupt many handmade volcanoes.

In maths, we learnt and identified different representations of multiplication and division including word problem and reasoning questions. Children will start to have a secure knowledge of their 3 and 4 times tables this will take lots of practise and I encourage pupils to continue using TT Rockstar’s.

In our Science sessions, we investigated different rocks and their properties. Children have learnt how a fossil is formed and we made a fossil using clay and dinosaurs. Furthermore, we used starbursts to explain the different types pf rocks and they are formed - we even ate them after!

Lastly, Year 3 had a fantastic time visiting a local Synagogue. The Rabi told us lots of information about Judaism and their many festivals, children will continue to learn more in RE lessons.
